Barcelona has announced on its official pages that Joan Laporta has resigned from the presidency. This decision was formalized at today's board meeting and is directly related to the presidential election process at the club.
The fact is, according to the club's charter, the incumbent president must temporarily resign to participate in the re-election. For this reason, Laporta's resignation is interpreted not as an "extraordinary sensation," but as a necessary procedure for entering the elections.
The club will now be temporarily headed by First Vice-President Rafael Yuste. He will have to maintain the stability of the club's daily management until the elections are completed and a new leader is determined.
