Chinese geologists have announced a discovery that has astonished the global scientific community. The new deposit, located in Hunan Province, has revealed the world's largest gold reserves. This was reported by "Popular Mechanics" publication.
According to preliminary estimates, there may be up to 1100 tons of gold underground. This amount is approximately 83 billion US dollars at current market prices. According to Chinese state media, the discovery was made in the area of the Wangu deposit in Pinszyan County. Geologists have discovered more than 40 gold veins at a depth of 2000 meters. Also, the results of 3D modeling showed that the mine can be extended to a depth of another 3 kilometers.
Experts note that the gold content in the rock is 138 grams per ton of ore. This indicator is a very rare high result in the world gold mining industry.
"Visible gold fragments were discovered in a large number of drilled rocks," said Chen Rulin, a specialist at the Hunan Geological Bureau. According to him, this discovery will be of great importance not only for the mining industry of China, but also for the entire world.
If the calculations are officially confirmed, the new deposit will surpass the South Deep deposit in South Africa, which for many years was considered the largest in the world with reserves of 1025 tons. This could make China an absolute leader in gold production.
The discovery has already affected the situation on the world market - according to media reports, the price of gold has risen to $2,700 per ounce. China is expected to further strengthen its position as the largest producer and consumer today.
According to Liu Yongzhong, Deputy Head of the Geological Bureau, drilling and analysis work is still ongoing. According to him, additional layers of gold were also discovered near the search area.
