Electric car sales surged: a new record set in September

September marked a real turning point for the global car market — worldwide sales of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles rose by 26% year-on-year, reaching a record 2.1 million units for the first time ever. Reuters reported the figures.

Experts say the growth was driven mainly by strong demand in China and a rush of purchases in the U.S. ahead of the expiry of tax incentives.

In North America, sales jumped 66%, hitting 215,000 vehicles — a clear sign that interest in electric mobility continues to grow across the region.

More than half of global sales came from China, with around 1.3 million vehicles sold. This is hardly surprising, as China has become the main “locomotive” of the electric-vehicle industry.

Europe also saw a real “green car boom,” with sales surpassing 427,000 units. Analysts attribute the rise to Germany’s incentive programs and strong demand in the United Kingdom.

Experts predict the European market will heat up even more in the coming months as a cheaper version of Tesla’s Model Y enters production — increasing competition further.

Meanwhile, in the U.S., sales are expected to slow in the fourth quarter, as both consumers and businesses lose access to key tax benefits.

In conclusion, September marked another major step toward a “green energy” future — the world is rapidly accelerating into the electric-vehicle era.
