An unbelievable crime was uncovered in Myanmar — a man spent nine days digging an underground tunnel and stole a large amount of gold jewelry from a jewelry store. This was reported by Shin Chew Daily, citing Focus.ua.
According to reports, the perpetrator worked at a car wash during the day and dug the tunnel at night. His plan was carefully thought out — he studied the underground communications and found a safe route to the store.
Police stated that he used ordinary construction tools and advanced several meters each night. By the ninth night, he had reached the jewelry store's basement and managed to enter the premises.
As a result, he obtained about four kilograms of gold and precious items. Investigators estimated the total value of the stolen goods at hundreds of millions of hryvnias.
Later, the thief sold part of the stolen gold — around 551 grams. However, police acted swiftly and arrested him three days after the transaction.
During questioning, he admitted: “Digging a tunnel was the safest and most precise way to enter the store.” According to investigators, the man spent several weeks planning the crime and worked as a regular laborer during the day to avoid suspicion.
He is currently under arrest, and the investigation is ongoing. Police described the incident as an “unusual and professionally planned theft.”
Experts noted that this case demonstrates — even in the age of technology and video surveillance, human imagination and cunning have no limits.
