
A devastating road traffic accident in the San Gabriel Mountains in California has shocked the global gaming and IT communities. Renowned video game developer Vince Zampella, who left a significant mark on the industry, has passed away at the age of 55.
According to NBC4, Zampella's Ferrari lost control near the exit of a tunnel and collided with a concrete barrier. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire. Zampella tragically died at the scene, while a passenger in the car sustained severe injuries and was taken to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, the passenger could not be saved.
Vince Zampella holds a special place in the history of video games. He was one of the founders of Infinity Ward, the studio responsible for creating the legendary Call of Duty series. This project captivated millions of fans over the years and greatly influenced the development of the genre.
Later, Zampella continued his journey by founding Respawn Entertainment, where he once again showcased his talent through popular games such as Titanfall and Apex Legends. In recent years, Zampella worked under Electronic Arts, where he led efforts to develop the Battlefield series.
Electronic Arts officially confirmed Zampella's death, describing him as an inspiring visionary who profoundly transformed the world of video games. In the company's statement, it said: “This is an irreplaceable loss. Our hearts are with Vince’s family, loved ones, and everyone who drew inspiration from his work.”
Currently, authorities are investigating the causes of the accident. Investigators are working to determine why the vehicle lost control on the mountain road, including whether mechanical failure or other factors were involved.
