On the night of December 19, Friday, Ukraine's armed forces launched an intense wave of drone strikes on several regions of Russia. This large-scale assault resulted in the destruction of critical infrastructure in many areas, damage to residential buildings, and, regrettably, casualties among civilians.
Oryol: Heat and power supply disrupted
One of the most severe strikes targeted the city of Oryol. A drone hit the local thermal power station (TPP). As a result, most of the city experienced power outages.
Local residents complained on social media about not only power cuts but also the failure of water supply and heating systems. According to the region's governor, Andrey Klichkov, the situation is particularly dire in the Soviet district. Initial reports indicate no casualties among residents, but the municipal infrastructure has suffered significant damage.
Infant injured in Belgorod, destruction in Lipetsk
During the night, explosions were reported in multiple regions, including Voronezh, Lipetsk, Belgorod, and Rostov:
- Belgorod: Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that a five-month-old infant sustained injuries as a result of a drone attack.
- Lipetsk: Debris from a drone intercepted by air defense systems fell onto a multi-story residential building, causing damage.
Rostov Region: Burning cars and blackouts
The situation in Rostov Region also raised concerns. Governor Yuriy Slyusar stated that the attacks extended beyond Rostov city to several districts.
- Taganrog: Five private residences were damaged, and three parked vehicles were completely burned.
- Power outages: Damage to high-voltage power lines caused blackouts in some parts of the region.
Airports closed: Flights suspended
Due to the threat of widespread drone attacks, temporary restrictions were imposed on the operation of 10 airports in Russia. At the time of reporting, flights remain suspended in the following cities:
1. Vladikavkaz
2. Grozny
3. Magas
4. Samara
5. Yaroslavl
Emergency services are currently active in all affected areas, working to restore damaged infrastructure and assist the affected population.
