The Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) has officially published the Global Peace Index 2025, which assesses the level of security and stability of countries. This year's study covers 163 countries and regions, representing approximately 99.7% of the world's population. This makes the rating one of the most reliable analyses on a global scale.
The report notes that the world is becoming increasingly dangerous in the overall picture. According to the authors of the study, the level of global peace has continued to decline for the sixth year in a row. In particular, the factors leading to major regional and international conflicts have reached an unprecedented level.
How is the Peace Index calculated?
The Global Peace Index is calculated based on 23 key indicators. These indicators are combined into three large groups:
- the level of public safety and protection of the population;
- the presence and scale of internal and international conflicts;
- the level of militarization of the country.
In the analysis process, along with accurate statistical data, such as the volume of military expenditures, the number of victims in conflicts, and cases of crime, the assessments of international experts are also taken into account. According to the results of 2025, the average global peace indicator worsened by 0.36%.
The safest countries in the world
Iceland once again became the absolute leader of the ranking. This country has maintained its status as the most peaceful country in the world for 17 consecutive years. Also, the five most peaceful countries in 2025 were formed as follows:
-Iceland;
-Ireland;
-New Zealand;
-Austria;
-Switzerland

The authors of the report note that these countries are distinguished by a high level of "positive peace." That is, stable institutions, an atmosphere of trust within society, and a low level of violence are the main strengths of these countries. Despite a slight decline in the level of security in Western and Central Europe over the past four years, this region is still considered the most peaceful region in the world.
Which countries are the most dangerous?
At the bottom of the rating are countries where the most difficult situation is observed in terms of security. Among them:
-Russia;
-Ukraine;
-Sudan;
-Democratic Republic of the Congo;
-Yemen.

Experts noted that the ongoing armed conflicts, political instability, and humanitarian crises in these countries are having a serious negative impact on the level of peace.
What is Uzbekistan's result?
In the 2025 Global Peace Index ranking, Uzbekistan rose two positions compared to last year and took 64th place overall. This indicator means that there are certain positive shifts in the direction of security and stability in the country.
The rating among the countries of Central Asia is distributed as follows:
-Kazakhstan - 56th place;
-Kyrgyzstan - 78th place;
-Tajikistan - 79th place;
-Turkmenistan - 78th place.

Experts emphasize that security issues in the region largely depend on social stability, economic reforms, and the effectiveness of state institutions.
