The घटना took place on Saturday in the Holosiivskyi district of the city. An armed man opened fire on people in the street and later took several individuals hostage in a supermarket. As a result, six people were killed and 14 were injured. The attacker was killed in a confrontation with police.

Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said the officers involved had been temporarily suspended and that an investigation into their actions was under way. President Volodymyr Zelensky accused them of “inaction” and confirmed that a criminal case had been opened.

Authorities are treating the incident as a terrorist act. The attacker is reported to have been mentally unstable. Several of the injured remain in hospital receiving treatment.
