Another Country Name Changed on the World Map

Nauru, located in the Pacific Ocean region and known as one of the least populated countries in the world, has officially changed its name. Now the country in the international arena Republic of Naoyero will be referred to by the name. About this Associated Press agency reported.

It is reported that the new name has been adapted to the historical name in the country's local language and its original pronunciation. In this regard, the country's international code will also change. Previously used NRU instead, now NRO code will be used. Also, the citizens of the country will no longer be called "Nauruan" as before, but Day-Naoyero will be called.

According to President David Adeang, this change serves to more fully reflect the country's rich historical heritage, national language and the identity of the people. The head of state submitted this initiative to the parliament for discussion earlier this year. Later, relevant amendments to the Constitution were approved by deputies through a two-stage voting process.

According to the official government statement, the name "Nauru" was previously used in the international arena so that it would be easy for foreigners to pronounce. However, "Naoyero" is considered the original, historical and traditional name of the country. Therefore, the authorities decided to restore this very name as a true national symbol of the state.

With a population of nearly 12,000, Naoyero ranks third in the world in terms of population only after Vatican City and Tuvalu. The country achieved independence in 1968. Once achieving large economic income through phosphate mining, the state has faced a serious economic crisis in recent years as a result of the depletion of natural resources.

Today, Naoyero is considered one of the countries feeling the effects of climate change most strongly. The continuous rise of sea level poses a serious threat to the island nation. Therefore, the government pays special attention to attracting foreign investments in order to protect coastal infrastructure, relocate the population to safe areas and adapt to the consequences of climate change.

According to officials, the change of the country's name will start a "new stage of national pride" for Naoyero. Also, the government appealed to various countries of the world and international organizations, asking them to officially recognize the new name.

It became known that the United Nations, as well as diplomatic missions of Australia, New Zealand, and the USA and China in the region, have started recording the country's name as Naoyero in their official sources.

It is worth reminding that this process began on January 29 of this year when President David Adeang submitted relevant amendments to the Constitution to change the country's name to the parliament. Later, on May 12, the parliament approved these changes. In June, the government of Nauru sent an official appeal to the United Nations in order to recognize the new name at the international level. After that, the name Naoyero was also reflected in the UN official database.
