In Q1 2025, Xiaomi's automotive division reported a loss of 500 million yuan (around $69 million), Auto.Mail.ru reported. Despite this, the company is ramping up deliveries and expects to turn a profit within months. Currently, each SU7 EV sold costs Xiaomi about 6,500 yuan, or roughly $900 in losses.
In the first three months, Xiaomi delivered about 76,000 SU7 units. CEO Lu Weibing noted that the car project is still in its early phase. In 2024, the average loss per vehicle was around $9,200 — meaning the company has reduced this figure by nearly tenfold in under a year.
Xiaomi believes it can break even by scaling production. The company is also banking on a second model — the YU7 crossover — which has generated triple the interest compared to SU7 at a similar launch phase.
Additionally, Xiaomi revised its performance policy for the SU7 Ultra. Initially, its full 1548 horsepower was unlocked only after certified track training. Following customer complaints, this restriction has now been lifted.
