During the hot, thirst-inducing days of summer, demand for cold beverages increases steadily. Carbonated waters, energy drinks, colored or fruity beverages are sold in almost every store or roadside stall. However, in many cases, these products are kept under direct sunlight without meeting sanitary standards. Under such conditions, these drinks can pose a serious health risk.
For example, if beverages in plastic containers are not stored at proper temperatures, harmful substances such as bisphenol A, formaldehyde, phthalates, and styrene may become active and mix into the liquid. These substances harm the nervous and endocrine systems, weaken immunity, and may even increase the risk of cancer.
According to Olimjon Imomov, a specialist at the Republican Specialized Oncology Center, such drinks negatively affect protein and fat metabolism and can damage reproductive and brain function.
Additionally, colored and carbonated drinks often contain artificial additives. When exposed to sunlight, these components can change and form hazardous compounds that cause allergies, hyperactivity, and excessive strain on the liver and kidneys.
Energy drinks and caffeinated beverages present a specific problem: they dehydrate the body by expelling fluids rather than retaining them. This may lead to low blood pressure, headaches, and fatigue.
The chance of bacterial growth in drinks stored under the sun is also quite high. If the bottle is dirty or already opened, diseases like dysentery, salmonellosis, or E. coli can be transmitted.
What should you do?
– Avoid drinks left under the sun;
– Pay attention to the hygiene of the vendor and sales point;
– Prefer homemade natural drinks — chilled green tea, fruit juices, or still water.
