A 450-meter secret tunnel under the border exposed

Another high-profile case of law violation was discovered between neighboring countries – Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. This time, a 450-meter-long underground tunnel was found in the border zone of the Turkestan region, reported gov.kz.

According to the Financial Monitoring Agency of Kazakhstan, members of a criminal group spent several weeks carefully digging this underground passage. The tunnel was constructed in complete secrecy, out of view of any surveillance systems, and was used for two months to smuggle petroleum products.

The most dangerous aspect of this tunnel is that it passed directly through highly secured parts of the border and operated in uncontrolled zones. It is suspected that the group transported petroleum products in containers and earned large profits from each trip.

Thanks to effective cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, the tunnel's operation was shut down. During a joint special operation, all members of the criminal group were apprehended. It was confirmed that five of them are citizens of the two countries.

Currently, the investigation is completed, and the case has been submitted to court. This incident once again highlighted not only the importance of border security but also the ongoing issue of energy resource smuggling.

Legal experts note that building such tunnels poses a serious threat to many countries. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen technical surveillance in border areas and use modern technologies to detect such cases in advance.

The law prescribes severe punishment for such crimes. The detainees are charged with smuggling, illegal border crossing, and forming a criminal group.
