Students in Russia who become fathers during their college or vocational studies may soon benefit from new opportunities. Leonid Slusky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, sent a proposal to the Ministry of Education and Science, suggesting that young men who become fathers while studying be allowed to transfer from paid to free (budget-funded) education.
In his appeal, Slusky stated, “LDPR proposes not only giving this right to female students who have children during their studies, but also to student fathers enrolled in vocational or higher education programs, enabling them to access free education supported by the state.”
The letter, sent to Education and Science Minister Valery Falkov, emphasized that, if approved, the initiative would provide significant relief for thousands of students, offer additional social support to young parents, and ensure greater equality in the education system.
Previously, only female students who gave birth during their studies were eligible to switch from paid to free tuition. If this proposal is adopted, male students who become fathers during their academic years will also be able to use this benefit.
The significance of the proposal is that supporting young parents during their studies helps reduce their financial burden, expands educational opportunities, and strengthens social stability. The final decision on this matter will be made by Russian government bodies.
