Portugal is planning a stadium that will break a European record
Portuguese club Benfica may soon own the largest stadium in Europe, The Sun reported. According to sources, some club executives are proposing the construction of a new football arena with a capacity of 120,000 spectators. Currently, Benfica’s management is also exploring ways to increase the seating at their existing Estadio da Luz stadium.

Benfica has already started consulting with the world-renowned architectural bureau Populous, which previously participated in the reconstruction of Tottenham’s stadium.

At present, Benfica’s main stadium — Estadio da Luz — accommodates 68,000 fans. The biggest football arena in Europe today is Barcelona’s Camp Nou, which holds nearly 99,000 spectators.
