In Samarkand, within the framework of the high-level dialogue at the 20th Anniversary Conference of CITES, the Samarkand Declaration and the Regional Cooperation Plan for 2032 were signed. This was reported by the Ecology Committee.
The documents were signed by Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. The declaration, prepared in collaboration with Traffic International, confirms the intention of the Central Asian states to strengthen cooperation in response to the growing threats to biodiversity.
These threats are associated with habitat loss, climate change, and poaching. According to the plan, cooperation between natural conservation systems, customs, law enforcement, and judicial institutions will be strengthened.
Particular attention will be given to the establishment of national operational task forces against wildlife crimes, the introduction of modern monitoring technologies, and the improvement of data exchange. The development of regional cooperation will be implemented through consistent operational information exchange, joint control mechanisms, and coordinated actions in border areas.
The states have agreed to develop a joint strategy that includes measures to combat the illegal trade of wildlife, restore ecosystems, and protect rare species.
