
According to Azizbek Uronov, Uzbekistan’s representative on World Trade Organization (WTO) issues under the President, Tashkent has completed negotiations with Canada and Panama regarding accession to the WTO. Uronov noted that now only three countries remain with which the republic needs to conduct negotiations, but he did not disclose the list of these countries.
In October of this year, Uzbekistan successfully completed negotiations with the European Union on accession to the WTO. In September, negotiations were concluded and agreements reached with Argentina, Australia, and Honduras.
At the end of September, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala reported that Uzbekistan was close to completing negotiations for joining the organization. According to her, Uzbekistan’s WTO accession process is planned to be fully completed by the spring of 2026.
The WTO began its operations in 1995. The organization aims to regulate trade in goods, services, and intellectual property rights between countries.
The WTO works to remove trade barriers, ensure fair access to markets, and help resolve trade disputes. By the end of August 2024, the WTO had 166 member countries.
