
As of January 1, 2025, about 15,000 libraries are operating in Uzbekistan. This was reported by the National Statistics Committee.
The libraries' collection contains a total of 85 million copies of books and magazines. The number of registered users has reached 12.8 million people.
Nearly 78 percent of these users are young people: children under the age of 14 make up 31.6 percent, and teenagers and youth aged 15-24 account for 45.9 percent. The majority of libraries are located in Fergana region, where there are 2,100 libraries.
The next largest numbers are in Samarkand (1,900) and Kashkadarya (1,500) regions. The total figure includes libraries of all educational institutions and information-library centers under organizations.
Additionally, in November of this year, the "Turon Book Station" project was launched in Tashkent. According to the project, bookshelves have been installed at several metro stations to promote reading.
According to the Ministry of Transport, such reading zones are planned to be established at other metro lines as well.
