More than 50 prisoners have escaped from a prison in Indonesia's Aceh province, The Telegraph reports.
Footage circulating on social media shows the men climbing over fences and running past street vendors. Residents of the province, located in the west of the country, tried to catch the escaped prisoners. According to officials, 28 prisoners are currently at large.
The prisoners escaped while waiting in line for food. Indonesia's prisons are currently facing a serious problem - many of them are overcrowded.
Last month, Immigration and Corrections Minister Agus Andrianto warned that the country's prisons were 87 percent full. After the Aceh incident, the minister told the media that the prison was designed to hold 100 people, but was currently holding 368.
Most of the prisoners serving their sentences were sentenced to prison for drug-related charges. The surrounding area is currently being searched for fugitives, and officials have urged prisoners still at large to surrender to avoid further punishment.
