The latest report by the United Nations Population Fund has once again confirmed that the global birth rate is sharply decreasing. According to the results of a worldwide survey, the problems that modern people face in having children actually reflect the general state of society as a whole.
Analysts surveyed about 14 thousand people in 14 countries. Among them are such large countries as India, the USA, Germany, Brazil, and South Korea, where a third of the world's population currently lives. Most respondents did not hide their desire to start a family and have children, but they listed a number of factors that hinder this in practice.
First of all, it became clear that the main concerns of many are such factors as difficulties in earning money and the lack of permanent jobs, problems with housing, uncertainty about the future, and even the absence of a spouse. Experts say that these problems are not only related to economic reasons, but also to social norms, uncertainty and the lack of long-term stability in society.
According to Natalia Kanem, head of the UN Population Fund, many people really want to get married and have children, but at the same time do not have sufficient opportunities and conditions for this. The decline in the birth rate is explained not by a reluctance to become parents, but by limited choice.
The report lists the main reasons affecting the decline in birth rates as follows:
- More than half of respondents consider the lack of financial resources to be the main obstacle to getting married and having children.
- Every third woman has experienced an unexpected pregnancy in her life.
- 40 percent of respondents over 50 admitted that “parenthood planning” has become a dream.
- 11 percent of respondents noted the problem of unequal distribution of responsibilities and obligations in the family.
Despite these difficulties, the dream of having children has not lost its significance for many. According to the survey results, 38 percent of women and 35 percent of men dream of having at least two children, and 15 percent dream of having more than three.
In the modern world, the dream of starting a family and having children remains cherished by many, but today it has become much more difficult to overcome social and economic barriers. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
