
On November 5, 2025, at least 66 people were killed and more than 400,000 evacuated after Typhoon "Kalmegi" struck central regions of the Philippines. According to the BBC, Cebu Island suffered the most damage, with entire villages submerged.
Currently, 26 people have been declared missing. Most of the victims died during the flooding.
A state of emergency has been declared in Cebu province. During the disaster, wind speeds reached 130 kilometers per hour, resulting in destroyed houses and roads filled with vehicles and building debris.
The military involved aviation in rescue operations, but one helicopter crashed and six crew members died. According to local residents, the water level rose very quickly.
"Our house is filled with mud; we don't know where to begin cleaning," said residents of Mandaue City. The typhoon is weakening and moving towards the South China Sea, and may reach Vietnam in the coming days.
