US Precision-Strike Missiles Nearly Exhausted

The US military has used up a large share of its stockpile of long-range, precision-strike missiles during the five-month military conflict with Iran. Reuters reported this, citing three sources familiar with the situation.

According to the publication, the US military has used nearly all of its ATACMS and PrSM missiles designed to destroy ground targets. Two sources said the stockpile of these weapons was “almost entirely” depleted. However, exact figures on how many missiles remain in US warehouses have not been disclosed.

ATACMS is a missile system that enables precision strikes against targets at long range and has also been used by Ukraine against certain targets on Russian territory. PrSM is a next-generation missile expected to replace ATACMS.

According to military experts, missiles costing more than $1 million each are strategically important to the US not only because of the conflict with Iran, but also in view of a possible future confrontation with China.

Reuters sources said the conflict lasting longer than expected has increased pressure on US weapons stockpiles. Washington is therefore taking steps to replenish its shrinking missile arsenal.

For example, Raytheon has reached a multiyear agreement with the Pentagon aimed at significantly increasing Tomahawk missile production. This is seen as part of broader US efforts to restore its missile stockpiles.
