Who Earns More Worldwide: Women or Men?

Although women make up more than half of the world’s population, they earn 23 percent less than men on average. In addition, women hold only slightly more than 31 percent of leadership positions. This was revealed in new UN data.

According to estimates by the International Labour Organization, 48 percent of women were active in the formal labor market in 2025, compared with 73 percent of men. Moreover, women continue to shoulder more than 75 percent of unpaid household and care work.

Women hold nearly 38 percent of management positions and slightly more than 31 percent of top leadership roles. Their share is even lower in some sectors that are particularly important to the economy and innovation.
