Today, a rocket fragment will crash into the Moon at high speed

Today, August 5 SpaceX a derelict rocket stage belonging to the company is expected to impact the lunar surface at high speed. This was reported by Reuters agency.

It is reported that the subject is the second stage of the Firefly Aerospace company's Falcon 9 rocket, which launched a lunar lander in January 2025. Roughly the size of a school bus and weighing about 4 tons, this debris has been moving uncontrolled in space since last year.

According to calculations, the rocket fragment will strike the Moon's surface at approximately 02:35 Eastern Time (06:35 GMT) at a speed of about 8,690 kilometers per hour. The collision may kick up lunar dust. Experts note that this dust is likely to be illuminated by sunlight, but it will be nearly impossible to see from Earth with the naked eye.
