British dentist Hannah Kinsella listed the foods that most affect the color of tooth enamel, reports Daily Mail.
According to the specialist, tomatoes, berries (such as raspberries and blackcurrants), and various fruit juices contain a high amount of acids. These acids erode the enamel and, over time, cause microcracks to appear, leading to yellowish or brownish discoloration of the teeth.
Kinsella explained that tomatoes are rich in anthocyanin and tannin pigments, which easily adhere to the enamel surface and change its color. Likewise, tea and coffee, which are high in tannins, can also leave stains on the teeth.
“It’s hard to give up tea and coffee completely, but adding milk can reduce their impact on tooth enamel,” said the expert.
The dentist also advised reducing the consumption of orange and pomegranate juices. She noted that foods and drinks high in acids and dyes have a serious effect on dental health.
According to Kinsella, the main rule for maintaining healthy, white teeth is moderation — and always brushing after every meal.
