Large drug shipment intercepted at Uzbekistan border

An attempt to illegally smuggle nearly 600 kilograms of narcotics into Uzbekistan has been thwarted at the border. A large quantity of drugs was seized during a joint operation by the State Security Service, Border Troops, and the Customs Committee.
It is reported that the criminal group planned to cross the border in the early morning, assuming security would be relatively relaxed. However, their plan failed. During the border inspection, a truck and the machinery it was transporting caught the attention of the officers.
The incident was detected at the Termez-Avto border customs post in the Surkhandarya region. A Mercedes truck driven by an Afghan citizen was inspected in accordance with established procedures. A Doosan excavator was being transported on the trailer.
When the excavator was scanned using an inspection system, suspicious objects were detected in its lifting mechanism, providing grounds for a more thorough search.
Subsequently, the interior of the excavator was carefully examined using a special technical device—an endoscope. As a result of the inspection, a large quantity of narcotics, specially hidden inside the lifting mechanism of the machinery, was found.
According to the data, 593 kilograms of hashish and 3 kilograms of opium were discovered in this hidden compartment. The narcotics were carefully placed in voids not intended for such purposes in the excavator's design, indicating that the smugglers had prepared for this crime in advance.
Stopping the smuggling of nearly 600 kilograms of drugs means a major threat has been averted. Had such a quantity of narcotics entered the country, it could have posed a serious threat to public health, especially the lives of young people.
A criminal case has been initiated under Articles 246 and 273 of the Criminal Code. Operational-search and investigative activities are currently underway. Other individuals involved in the case, the origin of the narcotics, and the intended recipients are being investigated.
Experts note that drug smuggling is usually carried out through a well-organized criminal chain, which may include transporters, organizers, storage keepers, and distributors. Therefore, identifying all participants in this chain during the investigation is of great importance.
This incident once again demonstrated the importance of border control and the vigilance of special services. Criminal groups may use various routes, equipment, and camouflaged methods, but their plans were exposed thanks to modern inspection tools and swift actions.
In short, this time the excavator was turned into a tool for smuggling rather than a work tool. However, due to vigilance at the border, the large drug shipment did not reach its destination. Those who thought they could bypass the law realized once again that there is only one right path—all other paths lead to an impound lot or an interrogation room.
