Two corruption cases exposed in Samarkand

Two more corruption-related cases have been exposed in the Samarkand region. During operational activities conducted by the State Security Service, officials from the tax system and local government were apprehended for illegal solicitation of funds.

It is reported that an accountant at the "Accounting Center" state institution in the Bulungur district promised to reduce a 150 million soum tax debt accrued by a farm. In exchange for this service, he initially received 3 million soums from the farm manager.

Subsequently, the accountant demanded an additional 15 million soums. He was caught red-handed by the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes while receiving this money in collusion with the deputy head of the Bulungur district tax inspectorate.

Another case was identified in the Kattakurgan district. An individual who served as deputy district governor in 2025 promised to help a citizen secure a job at a medical association. It was revealed that he had received 14 million soums for this, but failed to fulfill his promise.

During an operational event, this individual, now a former deputy governor, was exposed while returning a portion of the money, specifically 1,000 US dollars.

Criminal cases have been initiated regarding both incidents. Investigations are ongoing.

Such cases once again demonstrate the severe consequences of abusing official authority, trust, and responsibility within the state system for personal gain. Behind promises to "reduce" tax debts or secure employment lies the trust of citizens, the hard work of entrepreneurs, and the integrity of the state system.

In short, these two cases exposed in Samarkand show that the fight against corruption remains urgent. Those who attempt to circumvent the law will ultimately be held accountable. The formula here is simple: service is for the people, and a position is not for personal gain.
