Inspector in Tashkent sentenced for bribery and extortion

A serious criminal case involving a law enforcement officer has been heard in a Tashkent court. A former prevention inspector at the Yakkasaroy District Internal Affairs Department was found guilty of bribery, extortion, and abuse of office.

According to the investigation, the inspector demanded $400 monthly from a woman renting a house in exchange for covering up her alleged illegal activities and refraining from filing administrative reports. Instead of upholding the law, he used his position for personal gain.

The case was uncovered during a special operation conducted by the State Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The inspector was caught red-handed while accepting the $400 bribe.

During the trial, the complainant stated that the former inspector had demanded various sums ranging from 200,000 soums to $400. Furthermore, her testimony revealed that the convict not only extorted money but also coerced women into sexual acts under the guise of 'mentorship' and 'protection'.

This incident has naturally sparked public outrage. A prevention inspector is tasked with ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law. However, this case involved a gross abuse of authority and actions violating human dignity and rights.

At the conclusion of the trial, the former officer was found guilty and sentenced to 4 years in prison. This decision serves as a stern warning to all public servants: wearing a uniform is not a privilege, but a responsibility.

In short, this Tashkent case demonstrates once again that neither position nor rank can serve as a shield before the law. When those meant to protect the law break it, the consequences are even more severe. The conclusion is simple: those who abuse trust will ultimately be held accountable by it.
