Football referee arrested during the match

On June 22 of this year, during an amateur football match in the coastal city of Guarujá, São Paulo state, Brazil, a referee wanted for drug trafficking was arrested. This was reported by CNN Brasil.

According to the report, 38-year-old Ederson Carlos da Silva was about to show a yellow card to a player when police moved in. As he turned his back to the sidelines, officers in body armor stormed the field and detained him.

Glaucus Silva, the head of Guarujá’s civil police, told Brazil's G1 news outlet that da Silva had been located due to his activity on social media.

“He was a very active person in public life, which made it easier for us to track him,” said Glaucus.

The arrest was carried out as part of an investigation into a local drug trafficking network. Authorities began focusing on the group after a truck carrying 450 kilograms of cocaine was seized in November 2024.
