VAR error admitted in Paxtakor’s disallowed goal

A controversial incident occurred during the Paxtakor–Surkhon match in Round 18 of the Super League. Although Paxtakor’s goal in stoppage time was disallowed, O‘zFHM stated that the VAR referee had made an error in the decision-making process.

1. What happened?

In the 90+4th minute, Paxtakor found the back of the net.

The incident was reviewed by the VAR referee. After the lines were drawn, it was determined that Paxtakor’s No. 17 player was in an offside position when the ball was played and was actively challenging for the ball in the sequence.

The referee was then informed, and the goal was disallowed.

2. Where was the main error?

According to O‘zFHM’s statement, the problem was not the disallowed goal itself, but the decision-making procedure.

“In this situation, the VAR referee made an error by not recommending that the referee review the incident on the monitor,” the official statement said.

In other words, the VAR referee should have recommended that the referee personally review the controversial incident on the monitor.

3. Controversial incident sparks debate

The stoppage-time goal, which was later disallowed, became one of the most discussed moments of the match.

O‘zFHM officially acknowledged that a refereeing error had occurred during the use of the VAR system.

Thus, the key issue surrounding the disallowed goal in the Paxtakor–Surkhon match was not the offside itself, but the VAR referee’s failure to call the referee to the monitor.

In your opinion, is the use of VAR in the Super League helping to improve refereeing standards, or do shortcomings linked to human error still remain?
