Will the electronic prescription be canceled? Ministry provides official clarification

Reports circulating on social media regarding the cancellation of the “Electronic Prescription” system in Uzbekistan have sparked widespread discussion. In response to this issue, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued an official statement, clarifying that this information is being misinterpreted.
According to the Ministry, the relevant order adopted on December 15, 2025, does not provide for the cancellation of the “Electronic Prescription” system; rather, it provides for its gradual expansion. Specifically, in the initial phase, electronic prescriptions were made mandatory for systemic antibiotics, synthetic antibacterial agents, and hormonal preparations.
The newly developed draft document aims to further improve the system by planning to transition all prescription medications to a fully electronic format across all medical institutions and pharmacies in Tashkent and the 15 regions currently participating in the pilot program.
At the same time, it was noted that certain categories of potent medications, preparations containing narcotic or psychotropic substances, as well as processes related to reimbursement programs (covered by the state), are excluded from this system.
According to experts, the implementation of the “Electronic Prescription” system serves to strengthen control over the circulation of medicines, reduce illegal trade, and increase the transparency of medical services.
