Javohir Sindorov makes history, honored by President

A solemn ceremony was held in the presence of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to honor Grandmaster Javohir Sindorov, who achieved a historic result for Uzbek chess. During the event, the head of state personally presented the athlete with high recognition and a state award.
Sindorov won the Candidates Tournament organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), marking the first such achievement in the history of Uzbekistan's chess. Throughout the competition, he demonstrated high skill, patience, and willpower against the world's strongest grandmasters.
Notably, the chess player recorded a record result, scoring 10 points without suffering a single defeat across 14 games. This achievement is regarded as a unique phenomenon by the international chess community.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President emphasized that this victory is not only Sindorov's personal achievement but a victory for all of New Uzbekistan. He specifically noted that the athlete's success was built on years of hard work, the school of his mentors, parental blessings, and iron discipline.
The head of state also proudly mentioned that as a result of the attention given to chess in Uzbekistan, there are now two Uzbek grandmasters in the world's top five rankings. It was stated that this situation indicates the growing potential of the national chess school.
Sindorov's future goals were also discussed during the ceremony. Confidence was expressed in his ability to compete worthily for the world chess crown and to honorably represent the country at the Chess Olympiad to be held in Samarkand in 2026.
At the conclusion of the event, Javohir Sindorov was solemnly awarded one of the state's highest honors — the Order of "Mehnat Shuhrati" (Glory of Labor). In turn, he expressed deep gratitude to the President and the people for the trust placed in him.
