Students in Uzbekistan’s schools will no longer be charged rental fees for textbooks

Students in Uzbekistan’s schools will not be charged rental fees for textbooks. Since the 2022/2023 academic year, books have been distributed to students for free use.

In accordance with Presidential Decree No. PF-79 dated May 26, 2023, rental payments for school textbooks are fully covered by the state budget. In this connection, the extrabudgetary Republican Targeted Book Fund has been dissolved.

All of the fund’s functions have been transferred to the Ministry of Preschool and School Education. Funds allocated from the budget for purchasing textbooks and delivering them to students are managed through a separate personal treasury account.

Therefore, school administrations or other individuals must not demand money from students for textbook rentals.
