Lightning strikes zoo in France: several people injured
On May 14 of this year, 13 people sustained various injuries due to a strong lightning strike at the Barben Zoo, located in southeastern France. The incident occurred around 3:00 PM local time in an open area near the city of Salon-de-Provence.

According to French media, the lightning strike triggered a fire on the zoo grounds. Shortly after the report, 46 rescue workers from the Bouches-du-Rhône department arrived at the scene. Emergency responders quickly evacuated 15 people from the danger zone.

As a result, 13 people were hospitalized. Among them, a German woman is reported to be in critical condition and was immediately admitted to intensive care. In addition, 12 others — including four children — are receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

The zoo administration stated that no animals or infrastructure were harmed during the incident. However, as a precaution, the zoo has been temporarily closed and an investigation into the cause is underway.

France’s national weather service has issued a "yellow" alert level for several regions due to ongoing thunderstorm threats. Citizens are advised to be cautious outdoors and remain indoors during stormy weather conditions.

Local authorities and emergency services are closely monitoring the situation and providing necessary support to the injured.
