US and Iran reach truce

The United States and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire following a proposal from Iran for a 'workable' peace plan. US President Donald Trump announced the temporary halt to hostilities, which includes a suspension of bombings and attacks on Iran, contingent upon the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. This decision comes after consultations with Pakistan, whose Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requested the US to hold back its military power. Reports Dw.com.

Negotiations are scheduled to take place on April 10 in Islamabad, as confirmed by Iran's Supreme National Security Council. President Trump mentioned that the US has achieved and surpassed its military objectives, and the ceasefire period will allow for the finalization of a long-term peace agreement. The US has received a ten-point proposal from Iran, which is seen as a viable foundation for negotiations.

Tehran has expressed its readiness for the truce, claiming a 'great victory' over the US by having its ten-point plan accepted. This plan includes lifting sanctions on Iran and imposing fees for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi assured that the strait will remain open for safe passage during the ceasefire, coordinated with Iran's Armed Forces.

Israel has also agreed to join the ceasefire, as reported by CNN citing a White House representative. The upcoming talks in Islamabad will proceed with caution, given Iran's stated distrust of the US.
