Honda revises plan to phase out internal combustion engines by 2040

Honda has officially revised its previous plans for a full transition to electric vehicles. Previously, the automaker announced its intention to sell only electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2040, but it has now acknowledged that this goal is unrealistic. This is reported by Ixbt.com .
Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe stated that due to market uncertainty and shifting consumer demand, the company has stepped back from its strategy to completely abandon internal combustion engines (ICE). According to him, current conditions make it impossible to achieve such a goal within the previously announced deadlines.
Honda now intends to place greater emphasis on hybrid technologies. The company plans to launch 15 new-generation hybrid models by March 2030 and invest nearly 4.4 trillion yen (approximately $28 billion) in the development of new powertrains.
The new lineup will feature compact four-cylinder hybrids alongside larger V6 systems with improved efficiency and dynamics. Nevertheless, the automaker maintains its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by mid-century, though the path will now be more flexible.
