During the ongoing preventive works in the Tashkent overground metro, “a number of deficiencies” were identified, according to the Transport Prosecutor’s Office.
The scheduled maintenance works are being conducted from “Qipchoq” station to “Technopark” station and are expected to last for 3 months. Starting from June 8, train movement was suspended between “Qipchoq” and “Turon” stations. Beginning June 28, trains will also stop running between “Quruvchilar” and “Yangiobod” stations.
Thus, 9 out of 14 stations on the “30th Anniversary of Uzbekistan’s Independence” line will temporarily stop operating. During this period, free buses will operate along the same route.
Currently, rails and sleepers have been removed between the two initial stations — “Qipchoq” and “Turon.”
The Transport Prosecutor’s Office has paid close attention to the ongoing work. On June 24, it was reported that a study was carried out by a working group headed by Chief Transport Prosecutor Ikrom Narimov.
“During the inspection, a number of deficiencies and errors were identified, and specific instructions were given to responsible organizations to eliminate them in the shortest time, to review the ongoing works in full compliance with project requirements, and to ensure high-quality completion within the set deadlines.
Ensuring transparency of construction, passenger safety, and the stability of transport infrastructure has been defined as a key direction in this field,” the General Prosecutor’s Office statement said.
It is noted that “Uzbekistan Railways” JSC is the client in this process, and “Koprikkurilish” JSC is the contractor.

To recall, out of 7 stations on the overground line from Kuyliq to Sergeli, 5 were launched in April 2023, and the last 2 stations (“Turon” and “Qipchoq”) were launched in March 2024.
The first stage of this line — from “Dustlik” station to “Kuyliq” station — was opened in August 2020.
It is also worth noting that the underground “Yunusabad” and “Turkiston” metro stations on the Yunusabad line were closed for 4 months in 2023 for preventive purposes, 3 years after their opening.
The Sergeli line — the extension of the Chilanzar line — was opened in December 2020. Although it was launched earlier than the second overground line (“Qipchoq”–“Technopark”), it has not been closed yet for maintenance.
