Various reports circulated on social media about the felling of plane trees in the famous "Bulvar" square in Samarkand and the indifference of responsible organizations to this incident.
However, the Department of Ecology of the Samarkand region provided official information on this issue on September 2. According to the reports, the cutting down of unsafe plane trees that could pose a danger to people nearby was planned in advance and carried out in accordance with relevant legislation.
The report states, "A special working group formed with the participation of employees from the Samarkand Regional Department of Ecology, the Regional Department of Emergency Situations, and the Samarkand Regional Department of the Plant Quarantine and Protection Agency examined the condition of plane trees planted on the right side of the entrance road from Oqsaroy Street to the 'Guri Amir' mausoleum on University Avenue in Samarkand. During the inspection, it was found that three plane trees, having stood for many years, had lost their structural integrity due to external influences, developed cavities in their trunks, and were leaning towards the road at a 40-degree angle. It was reported that this increased the level of danger to human life."
Officials also noted that the tree felling was carried out cautiously and with consideration for environmental protection. These measures were implemented to ensure the safety of city residents and tourists, as well as to maintain clear and stable roads.
Representatives of the Department of Ecology urge residents and social media users to be aware of such situations and approach them cautiously, as well as to treat the environment and trees with respect.
