Former head coach of the Uzbekistan national team, Temur Kapadze, gave a lengthy interview to Garuda TV during his working trip to Indonesia, in which he detailed his thoughts on Cannavaro's arrival at the national team. According to him, this decision caused a lot of discussion and various reactions among the football community.
Kapadze first recalled Uzbekistan's previous qualifying rounds for the World Cup. He noted that fans wanted their coach to take the team to the World Cup, and this idea was widely promoted in the public and raised many questions.
"Of course, I didn't get a ticket to the World Cup. But many fans objected: why doesn't our own coach lead the team? I understand their opinion - after all, this was the first opportunity in our history to participate in the World Cup. "Although we weren't previously required to achieve high results, the fans reacted very emotionally," says the expert.
Kapadze also recalled the trust placed in him during the interview, emphasizing that he respects the management's decision:
"I don't think it would have been a problem if I had managed the team. This would be a very important experience for me. However, the management chose a different approach. The reason was that we were qualifying for the World Cup for the first time and didn't know what trials awaited us there. Therefore, it was deemed appropriate to trust an experienced specialist who has participated in the World Championship."
He also explained during the interview why he worked as Fabio Cannavaro's assistant for some time:
"After Fabio Cannavaro arrived, I spoke with the management. I will assist Cannavaro in two training camps to help him adapt to the national team more quickly. I preferred to work separately. I told them that it would be better to work more on myself. "The management accepted this correctly and agreed," said Kapadze.
In his opinion, Cannavaro's arrival is an opportunity for the team to take a new stage and implement new approaches. However, Kapadze didn't forget his gratitude to the fans for the trust and affection shown to him.
In short, the former coach once again emphasized that he made this decision without personal resentment, but with a professional approach and always wishes the national team good results.
