Former "Zenit" football player Pavel Pogrebnyak shared his opinion on the discussion regarding the possibility of Andrey Arshavin's goal in Russia's friendly match against Germany being attributed to Alexander Kerzhakov. Pogrebnyak stated that it does not matter much to him who tops the list of national team scorers.
However, he emphasized the need to wait for an official decision on the matter. According to him, reconsidering such episodes years later appears controversial, as revisiting and altering statistics or results retrospectively is not appropriate.
"To be honest, it doesn't matter to me who is in first place. I believe that reviewing goals in this manner is not quite correct: you can't shake your fists after the fight," Pogrebnyak said, as quoted by "Sport-Express."
The former forward also added that there should be only one record holder in history and that continually revising past achievements is not the right approach. If the goal is officially credited to Kerzhakov, he will be tied with Artyom Dzyuba as Russia's top scorers, with both having scored 31 goals each for the national team.
