Lockheed Martin joins project to launch rockets from sea platforms

Lockheed Martin has officially joined the sea-based rocket launch project initiated by Firefly Aerospace and Seagate Space. As part of this partnership, a special mobile sea platform called the Gateway Series is being developed. This system allows rockets to be launched into orbit from anywhere in the world without being tied to traditional spaceports. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .
Within the project, each company takes responsibility for its area: Seagate Space provides the infrastructure, Firefly Aerospace handles rocket technologies, and Lockheed Martin manages payload integration and defense tasks. This approach reduces dependence on ground infrastructure and significantly accelerates the process of reaching space.
Experts believe that since more than 70 percent of the Earth's surface is covered by water, sea platforms drastically increase the number of launch sites. This is crucial for rapid "on-demand" launches, providing a major strategic advantage in deploying satellites and testing systems.
Lockheed Martin views this project as an efficient way to accelerate the delivery of its technologies into orbit. Meanwhile, Firefly Aerospace is preparing new sites in Virginia and Sweden in addition to California. However, it is the sea platform that could change the logic of space flight, turning any ocean into a potential spaceport.
