The United States is discussing the deployment of a European peacekeeping force on the western bank of the Dnieper River to defuse the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and stabilize the situation. This was reported by US Presidential Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg in an interview with Fox News on May 13.
According to Kellogg, it is planned to involve military personnel from leading European countries such as Great Britain, France, Germany and Poland to participate in the peacekeeping mission.
"We are talking about a resilience force here. In general, this is called E3, but since Poland is also participating in addition to Britain, France and Germany, these forces can actually be considered E4. They will control the western part of the Dnieper River, which will ensure that military operations go beyond the communication zone," Keith Kellogg said in his interview.
The US special envoy stressed the need to first achieve a full ceasefire between the conflicting parties, and after this stage, the parties should discuss other important issues - the status of separate territories, the security of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the return of Ukrainian children to their homeland and Ukraine's membership in NATO.
On the same day, Reuters news agency, citing three reliable sources, reported that US President Donald Trump would send Keith Kellogg and another special envoy, Steve Witkoff, as observers to the talks between Russia and Ukraine to be held in Istanbul on May 15. CNN, however, clarified this information and noted that the two special envoys would mainly play an observer role.
Experts say that the intervention of European peacekeeping forces in the situation in Ukraine could be an important step in restoring trust between the conflicting parties and ensuring peace in the region.
