The Italian government has approved the project for the world’s longest suspension bridge, which will connect the Apennine Peninsula with Sicily. The giant bridge will have an estimated length of about 3.3 kilometers and will feature two support pillars, each 399 meters high. The estimated cost of the project is 13.5 billion euros.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described this construction as a strategically important project for the country. The bridge will not only modernize the transportation system but also improve the overall infrastructure of the country.
According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, this project will accelerate the connections between various regions of Italy and help overcome significant obstacles to the country's development.
The project is expected to take 6 years to complete and will incorporate numerous advanced technologies. The infrastructure project will also include the construction of over 40 kilometers of roads and railways.
The bridge will have strategic importance not only for Southern Italy but for the entire country’s economy, providing new opportunities for growth. Additionally, the project will be an important part of the trans-European transport network.
It is worth noting that this project has been discussed in Italy since the late 1960s, but now it is ready for implementation and offers many new opportunities.
