Croatian diver held his breath underwater for 29 minutes and set a new record

Famous Croatian diver Vitomir Maričić stayed underwater without taking a single breath for 29 minutes, capturing the world’s attention and being officially entered into the Guinness World Records. His remarkable achievement was registered on June 14 at the “Bristol” hotel pool in Croatia, in the presence of Guinness officials.

According to reports, before diving Maričić used a special technique to “charge” his body to the maximum. For 10 minutes, he breathed pure oxygen to prepare his organism for the challenge.

This process is called denitrogenation in medicine. Its essence is to remove nitrogen from the blood and saturate the body with oxygen at levels several times above normal. As a result, oxygen dissolves not only in red blood cells but also in plasma, significantly increasing the “air reserve” and enabling longer underwater endurance.

Vitomir Maričić’s achievement surpassed the result of the previous record holder, another Croatian diver — Budimir Šobat, by almost five minutes. In this way, Croatian athletes once again demonstrated their dominance in extreme sports.
