A major restriction has been introduced on the use of personal electric vehicles in the capital of Tajikistan. According to the decision of the Dushanbe City Council of People’s Deputies, the use of electric scooters, e-scooters, and similar vehicles will be temporarily banned until 2030, local media reported.
According to official information, the decision was made to ensure road safety, protect pedestrians, and prevent disorderly movement in the city. In recent years, the number of road accidents involving electric scooters has sharply increased, posing a serious threat to both drivers and pedestrians.
Representatives of local authorities stated that the restriction is temporary and will be reviewed once the necessary safety infrastructure — special lanes, signs, and regulatory systems — is fully established. Until then, electric scooters may only be used in specially designated areas.
The city administration appealed to citizens, particularly parents, urging them not to allow minors to use such vehicles. Officials noted that electric scooters are often used by young people who are unfamiliar with traffic rules, which is one of the main causes of accidents.
At the same time, experts emphasize that although electric scooters and e-bikes are considered environmentally friendly modes of transport, using them without proper infrastructure seriously endangers personal safety. Specialists believe that the restriction introduced in Dushanbe aims not only to improve safety but also to lay the legal and technical foundation for the proper regulation of personal electric transport in the future.
Thus, the decision adopted in the capital of Tajikistan is regarded as an important step toward improving pedestrian safety, ensuring order on the roads, and creating favorable conditions for eco-friendly transport in the coming years.
