A powerful hurricane named “Melissa” has caused major destruction in the Caribbean region. The storm brought devastation, floods, and power outages across Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba. Dozens of people have died, and thousands have been left homeless.
The worst damage was recorded in Jamaica. According to Prime Minister Andrew Holness, much of the island’s homes, hospitals, and public buildings were completely destroyed. “Over 80 percent of roofs have been blown away, and electricity has been completely cut off,” he said.
The hurricane later moved toward Haiti and Cuba. In Haiti, at least 20 people, including children, were killed due to heavy rain and flooding. In Cuba, wind speeds reached up to 115 miles per hour, causing severe destruction in southeastern regions.
Britain’s King Charles expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy in Jamaica. The United States plans to send a special team to assist the affected areas. Experts say that cleanup and recovery efforts may take several months.
