59 cars collided in dense fog in California, USA

A large-scale road accident occurred on one of the major highways in California, USA - Highway 99 due to thick fog. The incident was reportedly observed on the morning of January 31st, around 8:15 AM. According to the local road patrol, a separate collision initially occurred in both directions of the highway, after which a series of impacts continued, resulting in a total of 59 vehicles involved in the accident.

The incident reportedly occurred along Highway 99, approximately 40 miles north of Bakersfield, in the Tulare district. The fog was so thick that visibility remained around 150-200 feet (about 45-60 meters). For this reason, the road was closed from both sides for several hours, and traffic was restored only in the afternoon, around 14:30.

Officials stated that several people sustained minor and moderate injuries. Currently, investigations are ongoing regarding the causes of the incident, especially what triggered the first clashes.

Such mass accidents once again reminded of the frequently recurring "air trap" in winter: fog, frost, and heavy precipitation - especially in the morning - multiply the danger on the road. For example, there were previous reports of large-scale chain accidents in the state of Michigan.

The road patrol is repeating the simple, but life-saving rules: reduce speed, increase the distance with the front car, and be extremely vigilant in low visibility.

In short: fog is the signal "don't hurry." Answering him "yes, now" is the worst-case scenario.
