
President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on Chinese parts could disrupt Tesla’s plans to build Cybercab and semi-electric trucks in the U.S., reports Finam.
Tesla had intended to import critical components from China. But after Trump raised tariffs from 84% to 125% on April 9, the total duties reached 145%, leading to a halt in deliveries.
Initially, Tesla was prepared to absorb a 34% tariff, but the increased rates made logistics unsustainable, according to an insider.
The company had aimed to begin trial production of both models in October and move to mass production in 2026. The Cybercab was planned for production in Texas, and the Semi in Nevada.
