Villanueva assesses Uzbekistan's World Cup chances

The most prestigious football competition is undoubtedly the FIFA World Cup. This tournament gives every national team the chance to introduce themselves to the world, and players the opportunity to showcase their potential on the big stage. Interest is particularly high in debutant teams.
The Uzbekistan national team will participate in the FIFA World Cup final stage for the first time in history. This event is of great importance not only for the country's football but for the entire region. Former Chilean footballer José Luis Villanueva, who played for Vasco da Gama, Ulsan Hyundai, and Bunyodkor during his career, shared his thoughts on Uzbekistan's chances at the World Cup.
Villanueva noted that Uzbekistan has been drawn into a very difficult group. Portugal has Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad, Colombia is traditionally considered a strong team, and Congo possesses physically powerful players. Therefore, every match in the group stage will be a serious test for our representatives.
“It is a very difficult group. Portugal has Ronaldo, Colombia is always strong, and Congo is physically powerful. It won't be easy, but in football, anything can happen,” said Villanueva.
At the same time, the former player emphasized that the Uzbekistan national team should give their all, fight for points, and enjoy this historic experience. In his opinion, this first World Cup appearance serves as a great learning experience for the future, beyond just the results.
Villanueva also mentioned that he is well-acquainted with Uzbek football. Having played for Bunyodkor, he knows how important football is in the lives of people in our country. For this reason, he highlighted that Uzbekistan qualifying for the World Cup is a monumental event.
In short, José Luis Villanueva acknowledged that Uzbekistan's group is not easy, but emphasized that there is always a chance in football. For our national team, this World Cup is not just about results, but about experience, growth, and writing new history. Now they must give their all on the pitch — being a debutant does not mean being an easy opponent.
