The popular arXiv platform for scientific papers has announced strict measures against low-quality material created with the help of artificial intelligence. From now on, if texts written by neural networks and not verified by humans are detected, authors may be banned from the platform for one year. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .
According to Thomas Dietterich, head of the computer science department at arXiv, the author remains fully responsible for the content of the article. If the text contains "hallucinations" typical of neural networks, fabricated citations, plagiarism, or technical model prompts (e.g., "write a 200-word summary"), this will be grounds for sanctions.
As a punitive measure, in addition to a one-year ban, violators will only be able to post their articles on the arXiv platform in the future after they have been accepted by a reputable scientific journal or conference proceedings. The platform administration emphasized that each case will undergo an internal review and authors will retain the right to appeal.
ArXiv representatives acknowledge that the problem of "AI-trash" in the scientific environment is intensifying due to artificial intelligence. Large Language Models (LLMs) have led to an increase in the flow of superficial, automatically generated texts that do not contribute scientific novelty. These new restrictions are part of a broader fight against the crisis related to generative AI in the academic community.
