Truecaller launches eSIM service to boost revenue

Truecaller, known for its caller ID service, has launched an eSIM service for travelers. This move aims to strengthen the company's balance sheet and diversify business lines amid declining advertising revenue. According to the company, plans range from 1 GB for 7 days to 20 GB for 30 days. This is reported by Techcrunch.com .

Initially, the eSIM product is available in 29 countries, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Indonesia. Interestingly, India, Truecaller's largest market, is not included. This may be due to strict telecommunications regulations in the country, as the Indian government previously blocked services like Airalo and Holafly.

Truecaller is partnering with global connectivity provider Telna and software developer Telness Tech to run the platform. While competitors like Airalo, Holafly, and NordVPN's Saily exist, Truecaller is leveraging its base of over 500 million active users.

COO Fredrik Kjell noted that the existing audience provides a significant advantage in acquiring new users. Truecaller has recently faced financial challenges: 70 jobs were cut last week, and net sales fell 27% in the first quarter, with ad revenue dropping 44%.

The company is currently focusing on increasing subscription revenue through features like AI Assistant and Family Protection. With the ad market remaining volatile, additional services like eSIM are expected to be a new revenue stream for Truecaller.
